The framework
Three chapters.
Chapter 7
Liquidation. A panel trustee is appointed by the U.S. Trustee from a district panel, collects and liquidates non-exempt assets and distributes the proceeds.
Chapter 11
Reorganisation. The debtor usually stays in possession, and a court-approved claims and noticing agent administers the claims register in larger cases.
Chapter 13
Individual repayment plans administered by a standing trustee.
The role
What the trustee has to do.

Review proofs of claim (Official Form 410) against the debtor's Schedules D, E and F.

Conduct the meeting of creditors under § 341(a).

Collect, marshal and liquidate estate assets.

File monthly operating reports on UST Form 11-MOR under 28 C.F.R. § 58.8, and post-confirmation reports on UST Form 11-PCR.

Produce uniform final reports under 28 C.F.R. § 58.7.
- 06
Calculate and make distributions to creditors in statutory priority.

Why now, specifically
A manual reconciliation between structured forms and unstructured claims.
Much of the tooling in this market is long-established, and the trustees we have spoken to still reconcile by hand. We make no claim about the ownership, valuation or market share of any incumbent vendor.
What drew us here is structural: the forms are uniform and machine-readable, the proofs of claim are unstructured PDFs, and the reconciliation between the two is manual. Whether that is tractable at professional standards of accuracy is what we are testing.
